Each kit consists of a pre paid Australia Parcel Post approved mailing satchel and a number of collection bags. Each collection bag contains 10 smaller bags with clip tops and a spoon. There is also a submission form. Each kit will cover single animal submissions to multiple flock submissions.
Sample Collection
- Fresh faecal samples are essential. The larvae hatch from the eggs rapidly and hatching reduces the accuracy of the counting techniques.
- Samples are best collected directly from the rectum.
- Samples from a freshly passed faecal deposit (still warm) are acceptable, but you should avoid collecting faeces that have been in contact with dirt or grass.
- Fill the sample bags as full as possible. You may need to experiment with quantities.
- Ensure the outside of the bags is clean and the clip tops are closed tightly.
- Place the small clip top bags into the larger clear plastic bag, clip the top of the bag and place the bag into the reply paid satchel.
- Now fill out the submission form completely.
- Label each sample outer plastic bag with the same ID as is one your submission form
- Complete the sender details and be sure to write email addresses very clearly.
- Place the samples, now sealed in their own clip top bag, along with the submission form into the Parcel Post Satchel. Include payment if you are sending in a cheque with your sample.
- Remove the protective strip from the underside of the sealing flap. The Parcel Post Satchel will self seal when the flap is folded.
- Keep a note of which flocks you submitted sheet for your records.
- The postage of this Australia Post Parcel Satchel is free. Please post the samples as quickly as possible! If you need to hold your submission overnight, a cool place that is not the refrigerator is best.
- It is best to send the samples early in the week. This reduces the chance of samples being held in the mail system during the weekend.
- The time between you collecting the sample and arrival at the lab should be no longer than 5 days.
- If a sample is urgent then send it in an express post satchel. Let the lab know it is coming.
- Minimum sample size is 4gm per sample for an egg count: that is approx one heaped teaspoon from each cow and 8 pellets from sheep, and goats, 12 pellets from lambs or kids. For a horse a sample around the size of a golf ball is required.

- The price list is found on our website www.parasite.com.au
- It is cheaper to send in a cheque with the samples
- If we send you an invoice there will be a higher cost
- Please phone the lab if you have any questions or need assistance calculating the total cost for samples
